unique array of genetic resources to develop\u00a0the climate-smart crops already relieving pressure for farmers in the drylands and beyond. Last year we advanced our research with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/blog\/modernizing-crop-breeding-safeguard-tomorrows-populations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>cutting-edge phenotyping and speed breeding techniques<\/u><\/a>, making our research faster and more accurate and our innovations more effective than ever. href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icarda-mena-climate-week-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>MENA Climate Week<\/u><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icarda-cairo-water-week-2023\"><u>Cairo Water Week<\/u><\/a><u>, and<\/u>\u00a0<strong><b>COP28, <\/b><\/strong>where I represented CGIAR in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/cgiar-meets-uae-support-cop28-goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>pre-meetings with the UAE COP28 Presidency<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to underscore the importance of and help build even better international collaboration in achieving climate-smart food, land, and water transformations. During COP28, ICARDA convened and participated in over 25 strategic events showcasing our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/news-events\/news\/icarda-cgiar-desert-farming-innovation-sprint-announced-at-the-aim-for-climate-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Integrated Desert Farming for Livelihoods Innovation Program<\/u><\/a><u>,<\/u>\u00a0and I published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/blog\/climate-smart-food-systems-are-essential-burning-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>an op-ed<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to bring further international attention to how our work addresses critical dryland agricultural challenges.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dd48f5 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"9dd48f5\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5262f5c icarda-text-with-link elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5262f5c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I was thrilled that during COP28, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/news-events\/news\/countries-commit-usd-890-million-to-accelerate-agricultural-innovation-and-address-climate-and-food-crises\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>CGIAR secured more than USD 890 million<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in pledges to accelerate CGIAR\u2019s efforts against ongoing global food and climate crises, showcasing the power of strategic collaboration.<\/p><p>As the world faces an existential threat from climate change, our 2023 Annual Report aims to illustrate the significant return on investment and the far-reaching impact of supporting our multi-disciplinary research. CGIAR initiatives are vital in driving transformative change for global farmers today and in the future.
