Here is a list of our 2021 highlights: \n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e26c13 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3e26c13\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Prof. Dr. Adel El-Beltagy, a former Director-General of ICARDA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/former-icarda-director-general-prof-dr-adel-el-beltagy-awarded-lifetime-achievements\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">was recognized by the &#8220;Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Award for Leadership in Agriculture&#8221;<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> for his &#8220;lifetime contributions in national, regional and international agricultural research that changed the lives of poor farmers of West Asia, North Africa (CWANA) and Central Asia and Caucasus (CAC) countries.\u201d<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>ICARDA\u2019s story on Community-Based Breeding Programs (CBBP) won first runner-up in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icardas-livestock-based-innovation-success-story-gets-award\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2018Call for Success stories of inclusive innovations for livestock-based food systems\u2019<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> led by the African Union (AU) &#8211; InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>ICARDA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icardas-date-palm-project-wins-khalifa-award-2021\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">won the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation (KIADPAI) in the Second Category<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: \u2018Pioneering Development and Productive Projects\u2019 for its flagship date palm project focusing on the development of sustainable date palm production systems in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries of the Arabian Peninsula.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Dr. Reena Mehra, National Associate Scientist (Lentil Breeding) at ICARDA\u2019s Food Legume Research Platform (FLRP), Amlaha, India, won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icardaflrps-dr-reena-mehra-wins-research-wizard-young-scientist-award\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Research Wizard Young Scientist Award<\/span><\/a><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>ICARDA\u2019s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Team (MEL) and Social, Economy and Policies Team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icardacgiar-scientists-win-uns-international-technology-innovation-competition\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">received an award by The Group on Earth Observation Land Degradation Neutrality (GEO-LDN) Initiative<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, overseen by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), for innovation in halting land degradation through a tool that helps better inform land planning and the undertaking of restoration activities.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Dr. Chandrashekhar Biradar, then the Team Leader of ICARDA\u2019s GeoAgro for Sustainable Agroecosystems, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icarda-lead-scientist-wins-india-agri-extension-award-2021\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">was awarded the India Agri-Extension Award 2021 in Innovation in Agricultural Extension<\/span><\/a><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Researcher M\u00e9diha Khamassi Khbou, studying her Ph.D. in collaboration with ICARDA and lecturer at the Ecole Nationale de M\u00e9decine V\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire in Tunisia, received the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icarda-phd-student-wins-best-poster-award\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Best Poster Presentation award<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> during the latest 14th International Symposium on Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>ICARDA Director-General, Mr. Aly Abousabaa, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/icarda-receives-acsad-shield-recognition-its-contribution-regional-agricultural-science\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">presented with the shield of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands of the Arab League (ACSAD)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in recognition of ICARDA\u2019s role in the important development of agricultural scientific research in the region.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Dr. Safaa Kumari, Head of ICARDA Seed Health Lab\/Plant Virologist, <a href=\"https:\/\/mednight.eu\/mediterranean-faces-of-science\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">selected one of the 25 exceptional female scientists<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> from the Mediterranean basin featured at MednightEu in Spain.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><ul><li>TAAT Wheat Compact, implemented by ICARDA <span data-contrast=\"auto\">continued scaling climate smart heat-tolerant wheat varieties throughout 2021. In 2021, <\/span><a style=\"background-color: #fafafa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icarda.org\/media\/news\/afdb-taat-wins-top-international-award-digital-campaign\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">a short documentary on TAAT has won the 2021 Stevie International Business Awards<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> among which the work on wheat is reflected.
